The Lucrative College Music Market: How to Tap Into It

Have you ever heard of the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) or the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities (APCA)?
NACA APCA Campus Activities college music
These organizations have regional and national conferences in the U.S. where independent, unsigned musical acts of all kinds showcase in front of hundreds -- sometimes even thousands -- of college campus entertainment buyers.

If you do well at a NACA or APCA showcase, you can book dozens of college shows worth tens of thousands of dollars at one time.

But here's the thing ...

Many indie artists don't even know about this hidden market. And those who do are confused and intimidated by it.

Ari Nisman, president of Degy Entertainment, is one of the top college music booking agents in the U.S. He knows the opportunities and pitfalls of this hot market more intimately than practically anyone else on the planet.

In April, my pal John Taglieri sat down with Ari and grilled him for more than two and a half hours. During this exhaustive interview, Ari bared his soul and revealed all of his college booking secrets for the first time.

Definitely read A Musician's Advice About the College Market if you're thinking of getting into the NACA scene.

I made my full-time living playing at colleges. Got hired by over 350 schools for about $300,000 (gross, not net) on the East coast (from Florida to Maine, as far west as Arkansas.)

I tried to put into one article every bit of advice or wisdom I could share with my fellow musicians, from my experience.

I am a college student and I personally love having new bands come play for parties or SGA events... we are throwing around ideas of who to have. So far were thinking Eric Solomon...
