Adding to Step 1, all songwriters should enter contests where they are required to give up ownership to their songs, such as in the case of the Cable News Networks’ Morning Express Rise and Shine Song Contest.

I'm living proof that you can give away free stuff online, interact with over 4300 fans on facebook and twitter, collect email addresses, get over 1.4 million views and 4000 youtube subscribers and still make almost no money! lol

I love the last tip! ;-) It's not about me! I think people need to ask themselves what their motives are for trying to break into the business. It's not about making yourself happy. Don't ask what people can do for you. Ask what you can do for people without giving away your power. Love it!

So many artist just want a record deal and don't want to put in real work. It takes hard work to make it in the business I know because I was in it for 10 years.Build your own brand and market yourself and things will fall in place.

Another fast way to fail is to NOT have a marketing plan. Any kind of plan helps you move along towards a goal. Oh, one should have an achievable goal also.
